Deacons Gather to Celebrate 20 Years of Serving Church and Community

On April 27 the North Georgia Conference Order of Deacons celebrated the 20th anniversary of the ordination of the first class of Deacons.

Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson was in attendance at the gathering hosted in the Global Ministries offices and shared her appreciation for the unique call of Deacons in connecting the church and the world. Those who attended from the 1997 ordination class were given a watercolor print designed by Rev. Andrew Peabody using the words from the Litany of the day written by Rev. Kristin Heiden:

"Today we celebrate the ministry of the Deacon, honoring those who were among the first Deacons in 1997, those who imagined different ways of doing ministry as well as those who have carried on the call to teach and preach the Word of God, to serve the church and community, to embody Christ’s compassion and empower others to do the same, and to lead the charge for justice in our churches, our communities and across the world."
