Council of Bishops Supports Unity of the Church

Bishop Ough spoke at a press conference following his remarks to General Conference

Bishop Bruce R. Ough, president of the Council of Bishops and leader of the Dakotas and Minnesota Conferences, addressed the General Conference today, asking for a point of privilege to discuss rumors of a plan for schism.

Bishop Ough confirmed that the Council of Bishop is in talks with a number of groups across the denomination, but that the Council believes we are called to maintain unity.

“We belong to God and one another,” he said.

North Georgia Bishop Mike Watson affirms those words.

"Within the Church we are called to work and pray for more Christ-like unity with each other rather than separation from one another," said North Georgia Bishop Mike Watson. "This is the prayer of Jesus in John 17:21-23."

Later in the day, the body passed a motion asking the Council of Bishops to meet and bring back a report tomorrow offering advice on a path forward.
