Grief and Resurrection: 23 Churches to Complete the Process of Closing

8/14/2020

The members of the 2020 North Georgia Annual Conference voted to approve the closing of 23 churches. In circumstances when keeping a church open is no longer sustainable, our denomination has guidelines in place to direct the congregation and its leadership through the process of closing. Each of the following congregations have followed that process.

This was a somber time for the Conference session and a time to lift up our faith in God's promise of resurrection. The closing churches are:

  • Casey Springs UMC, Chatsworth
  • Concord UMC, Lafayette
  • Corinth UMC, Hogansville
  • Fair Oaks UMC, Marietta
  • Midway UMC, LaGrange
  • Mt. Airy UMC, LaGrange
  • Mt. Ararat UMC, Eatonton
  • Mt. Gilead UMC, Grantville
  • Mt. Hope UMC, Sparta
  • New Hope UMC, Atlanta
  • New Hope UMC, Lawrenceville
  • Odessadale UMC, Odessadale,
  • Pleasant Hill UMC, Griffin
  • Powers Ferry UMC, Marietta
  • Salem UMC, Pine Mountain
  • St. James UMC, Manchester
  • Union Springs UMC, West Point
  • Wesley Chapel UMC, Hoschton
  • Dawsonville UMC, Dawsonville
  • Scott Chapel UMC, Rome
  • Jones Memorial UMC, Morrow
  • Zebulon UMC, Sparta
  • Kaigler's Chapel UMC, Adairsville

Please join in prayer of thanksgiving for the ministry of these churches.

Editor's Note: There was a duplicate church name (New Hope UMC, Atlanta) on the previously posted list.
