Zoe Update: Meet the Umoja 'Unity' Thuuru Empowerment Group, Kenya

5/4/2022

With funding already provided, the greatest need from North Georgia Conference congregations and individuals is for prayer.

The North Georgia Conference has enjoyed partnering with Zoe Empowers, Kenya for many years. This incredibly transformational ministry empowers orphaned and vulnerable children to become entrepreneurs who are socially, economically, and spiritually strong. Zoe understands that addressing multiple barriers simultaneously is the only way to overcome extreme poverty.

We will soon fulfill a 3-year commitment to our previous group of 100 children living in Kiborione, Kenya, and have been delighted and awed by the success of their life skills and vocational training. In light of that experience, the North Georgia Conference has made a 3-year commitment to a new group.

We just received confirmation of the Umoja Thuuru/North Georgia group! Umoja means "unity" and we are excited about their declaration of their dependence upon one another as family and support. Thuuru is a village outside of Maua, northeast of Nairobi, in the center of Kenya. This group is made up of 92 children in 26 child-led households.

Zoe is transformational in ways well beyond what we normally speak of or see in the US. Our financial gift ($6500/year for 3 years) provides these children with a program that is holistic, life skill building, community building, and extremely fruitful. The process will stabilize them, connect them, and quickly begin generating steady food and income which will give them a future.

With funding already provided, the greatest need from North Georgia Conference congregations and individuals is for prayer for a family group.

Meet the Umojj Thuuru North Georgia Group

"Look at these faces, look over the family/name list, and pray for these children," said Rev. Scott Parrish. "I invite you to make a commitment, not just for a one-time prayer, but to consistently remember these orphan children in your prayers. The prayer support is the most needed thing for us and for the Umoja Thuuru children as we nurture their faith and ours!"
