Nacochee UMC Receives 2019 Renfro Trust Grant

10/17/2019

The Renfro Trust recently announced that Nacoochee United Methodist Church is a recipient of the 2019 Renfro Trust Grant. The grant will go toward a building program that is underway at the church.

Rev. Keith Windmiller and the church building committee submitted the application.

A Methodist Church has stood on the site of Nacoochee UMC in the Gainesville District since the early 1820s, but its current building cannot be renovated because of lack of appropriate foundation and lack of metal reinforcement. The plans for a new proposed facility have been in the works for many years, but more recently, as the church continues to grow, it became apparent that appropriate facilities are a necessity if Nacoochee UMC is to better serve the community.

Several priorities were identified by the congregation that center on how to use "every square inch of the property to its maximum potential for current and future ministries of the church."

"The committee that selects grant recipients deeply appreciated the ministry of this church and awarded $2,000," said Rev. Scott Parrish, Associate Director of Congregational Excellence with a focus on mission. "More than the funding, this represents the affirmation of the Southeastern Jurisdiction and hopes the congregation will continue to grow in mission and ministry."

The Renfro Trust Fund awards annual bricks-and-mortar grants to small rural United Methodist congregations in the Southeastern Jurisdiction.
