Clergy, ministry staff, seminary students, and laypeople interested in learning about leading a new startup ministry or who are interested in ministry innovation are encouraged to take part in the upcoming New Church Leadership and Innovation Academy. Led by Rev. John Kenney, senior pastor of Quest UMC, and Sarah MacDonald, executive pastor of Quest UMC, you will have the opportunity to visit a variety of churches to learn from their journeys into innovation and development.
"New church starts, mergers, turn-arounds, and any innovative approach to ministry requires intentionality and strong leadership," said Kenney. "This class will give leaders the important content they need to know and the practical nuts and bolts strategies to be successful in their various ministry contexts.”
The class will meet four times:
During each session, participants will tour the host church and learn directly from the experience of that pastor and congregation. Sessions run from 10 am - 3 pm.
Participants should expect to gain on-site inspiration from practitioners in startup churches and ministries, gain exposure to the essentials for a successful startup, make new ministry friends, discern and clarify God’s call regarding startup ministries, and finally write a startup plan for a new ministry and present it to potential partners.
