Praying: Tragic Easter Sunday Storms Take Lives, Damage Communities

Updated April 14

As we continue to learn about damage from the devastating storms across Georgia and the southeast on Easter night, local news outlets are reporting that at least seven people died in our area. Search and recovery efforts are still underway.

Photos from the Chattanooga Times Free Press show the devastation in North Murray County in the Northwest District:

We have received reports of home damage and damage to commercial properties in communities across our Conference, but no significant church-related damage.

If there is damage in your community larger than the scope your church can respond to, contact Rev. Scott Parrish ( Trained district or conference disaster response workers stand ready to help, and are prepared to follow the highest standards recommended by the CDC & Georgia Public Health.

North Georgia Conference is in contact with UMCOR (the United Methodist Committee on Relief), with Georgia Emergency Management Agency, and with the Red Cross. Note that GEMA has a new form for individuals to submit damage reports and photos. Complete the form here.

For now, know that we are here for each other and join us in prayer for everyone in the path of the Easter storms.
