Three North Georgia Conference United Methodists— Jay Horton, Rev. Brent Huckaby, and  Rev. Dr. Jordan Thrasher— have completed the EarthKeepers program of Global Ministries this summer and will be commissioned as EarthKeepers on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m.

Global Ministries EarthKeepers is a program to train and support United Methodist laity and clergy in addressing local environmental concerns and the systemic structures that give rise to those concerns. It is a response to the call to practice social and environmental holiness in the Council of Bishops’ 2009 document, “God’s Renewed Creation: A Call to Hope and Action.” The North Georgia Conference has had clergy and laity participate nearly every year since the program's inception.

During their training, the EarthKeepers discuss eco-theology and United Methodist entry points into environmental stewardship. They articulate their callings to this ministry, identify community assets and local environmental concerns, and develop project plans to address those concerns. The training is led by staff from Global Ministries, with resources from other United Methodist agencies.

All are invited to watch the commissioning service online on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. Please join us at www.facebook.com/GlobalMinistries.
