Many in our communities -- and church families -- struggle with someone who has drug and/or alcohol addiction. Once it gets to that point a church is often best served to refer to well trained counselors.
But one of the best first steps for a church ministry is a prevention program which assists in strengthening individuals and families. In association with the Global Ministries unit SPSARV we are pleased to offer a Train the Trainer event in the North Georgia Conference August 22-23, 9 AM-4:30 PM at Birmingham UMC (15770 Birmingham Hwy, Milton, GA 30004).
See http://www.strengtheningfamiliesprogram.org/about.html for information on the Strengthening Families Program and the very practical course content which your church could offer. Congregations that take on the Strengthening Families Program will see the overall mental health and well-being of their families improve.
Each church location would need three facilitators to be trained to facilitate the DVD discussion with a group of families (approximately 7 families depending on their size). Training participants must be willing to watch all 11 sessions and complete the At Home Study Worksheets. Due to Global Ministries underwriting the training cost, we are able to offer this training for $40 as we launch this nationally recognized program here in North Georgia.
