Two Emory Students Killed in Terror Attack in Bangladesh

Please join us in praying for the Emory University and Oxford community and for the family and friends of two students killed in a terror attack in Bangladesh. President Jim Wagner shared the tragic news this morning by email.

Dear Emory Community,

It is with pained sadness that I write to tell you of the death of Abinta Kabir, an Emory student at Oxford College. Abinta was visiting her family and friends when she was taken hostage and murdered by terrorists in the attack yesterday in Dhaka, Bangladesh. We have very little additional information at this time.

I was able to reach Abinta’s mother, who is in unspeakable pain. Please, as you are inclined, direct your kindest thoughts and sincerest prayers in her behalf and that of her family.

As for our Emory family, we will be remembering Abinta in the fall, I am sure, as the family directs and is comfortable. In the meantime, counseling and FSAP services are available to those of us who might benefit from those services.

With sadness,
Jim Wagner

President Wagner has sent a second message telling the Emory community that a second Emory student was killed in the same terrorist attack in Bangladesh. Lord, in your mercy.

Dear Emory Community,

Coming on the heels of my earlier message, we have learned now that a second Emory student was murdered in the Bangladesh terrorist attack. Like Abinta Kabir, Faraaz Hossain had been taken hostage and was subsequently killed. Faraaz had completed his second year at Oxford and was headed to the Business School in the fall.

I have been in touch with a member of the family to express Emory’s shock and condolences. Again as with Abinta, we will want to honor Faraaz’s memory in the fall, as the family might find appropriate. In the meantime, please comfort one another and continue to hold these families in your thoughts and prayers.

Jim Wagner
